Spinal injury cases frequently hinge on whether the standard of care was met in diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management. For attorneys handling medical malpractice and personal injury claims, understanding the nuances of spinal pathology and clinical decision-making is essential to building a strong, defensible case.
As a Spinal & Cranial Neurosurgery Expert Witness, I routinely evaluate cases involving degenerative spine disease, cauda equina syndrome, spinal infections, and traumatic spinal injuries. These conditions often present with overlapping symptoms, making timely and accurate diagnosis critical. Delays or misinterpretation of symptoms can have significant consequences, including permanent neurological deficits.
A central issue in many cases is whether healthcare providers acted appropriately based on the information available at the time. This includes assessing the adequacy of clinical evaluations, the use of diagnostic imaging, and the timeliness of referrals to specialists. For example, cauda equina syndrome is a surgical emergency that requires prompt recognition and intervention. Failure to act within an appropriate timeframe can result in irreversible damage, raising important questions about liability.
Equally important is the interpretation of imaging studies. MRI and CT scans provide critical insights into spinal pathology, but their value depends on accurate reading and appropriate clinical correlation. My background in both neurosurgery and neuroradiology allows for a comprehensive assessment of whether imaging findings were correctly interpreted and whether they supported the chosen course of treatment.
In personal injury cases, causation and damages must also be carefully evaluated. Determining whether a spinal condition was caused or exacerbated by an incident requires a detailed understanding of the patient’s medical history, imaging findings, and clinical progression. This is particularly relevant in cases involving pre-existing degenerative conditions, where distinguishing between natural disease progression and trauma-related injury is essential.
Objective, evidence-based analysis is critical in these matters. My role is to provide clear, well-supported opinions that help attorneys understand the medical realities of a case and present them effectively in litigation.
If you are working on a case involving spinal injury or alleged deviation from the standard of care, I am available to assist with expert review, reporting, and testimony.
